Silvina Mizrahi

January 22 - February 29, 2008
Artist Reception: Friday January 25, 5 - 7pm
Joan Resnikoff Gallery

Originally from the northern region of Argentina, Silvina’s work resonates with a spirit of her cultural heritage. Stories and myths are conjured up from the canvas by her use of mythological figures and child-like drawings; to do this she incorporates imagery from her native home in Argentina as well as images drawn by her young daughter. Her training as a sculptor is evident by the use of mixed media, rendering the 2-d canvases as precious objects, artifacts of history and conceptualized primitive beings. Of her work she says, Painting and sculpting is my key to the secret garden, my way down the rabbit hole, my magnifying glasses. Silvina’s pantings create a space to share in her imagination of mysteriously rendered everyday objects.

Silvina’s work has been shown around the Boston and abroad, including at the ICA, the Paino Factory Gallery, The Copley Society, the Aronow Gallery (San Francisco, CA), The Jerusalem Center for Performing Arts (Israel), the San Martin Cultural Center (Argentina) and the Arcobaleno Gallery (Uruguay).

The Resnikoff Gallery is located in the Media Arts Center of Roxbury Community College at 1234 Columbus Avenue. We are dedicated to highlighting the talents of local and emerging artists. The gallery hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm with limited weekend and evening hours. Please call ahead. The gallery and all gallery-related events, including artist receptions, are free and open to the public.
